Private Lessons for Youth Athletes

Private lessons are an effective way to improve your player’s game by receiving one-on-one guidance from one of our in-house coaches.  Private lessons are available for youth softball and baseball players aged 9 through 18 in the following areas:

  • Pitching
  • Hitting
  • Catching (for Catchers)
  • Defense/Position Specialization
  • Strength, Speed & Agility

Why private lessons?

Private lessons are an opportunity for your player to receive personalized guidance tailor-fit for them.  Your team’s coach is focused on the performance of the team as a whole – your player’s private coach will focus on their individual performance and personal growth. Coaches create a customized training plan to help your player achieve their goals based on where they are right now and where they want to be.  Your coach can also help identify and correct improper techniques before they become engrained as bad habits.

Private lessons are especially important for pitchers to ensure they are developing the proper mechanics to avoid misuse/over-use arm and shoulder injuries over time.

How does it work?

An initial evaluation is performed to assess your player’s current level of play, to identify areas for improvement and to determine goals.  This assessment will also help us match your player to a coach.  Most private lessons are scheduled for one hour once per week, generally on the same time and day each week.  For private lessons we work with players aged 9 and up.  Lessons are not available for players aged 8 years or younger. (Younger players are invited to participate in clinics and camps designed for their age group.)

You still need the reps.

Private lessons are not a replacement for in-game reps.  Your coach will want to know about your in-game performance to help identify and resolve barriers to progress.  Your coach may also assign drills to complete at home on a daily basis to build your strength, proficiency and dexterity.

Private lessons take time to see improvements.

Your player will have the most success if lessons occur on a regular basis.  Although it’s certainly possible for one personalized coaching session to yield an “aha” moment with immediate results, it takes time for new habits to take hold. Private lessons are most effective when completed over a minimum time commitment of 3 months.  A foundational skill set will need to be mastered before advanced skills can be introduced.
